St. Jean Bay
Eden Rock has a lively St. Barts feel before the room even comes into view. Its red roofs sit above St. Jean Bay, and I liked how easily a beach afternoon could turn into a meal without changing the mood. A main-hotel bungalow keeps that scene close; a garden bungalow may be quieter, though gaps in the curtains can let in early light.
Hotel or rented villa
The booking name needs a second look here. Eden Rock also arranges villa rentals around the island, and an off-site home's pool or private chef says little about a bedroom in the main hotel. I came for the bay, so the exact room, its view and the walk to the sand mattered more than a photograph of somebody else's villa.
Concierge & dining
The concierge found a canceled dinner table after a restaurant had appeared fully booked, the sort of help that made the trip feel easy. I also looked carefully at service charges and gratuity before the final bill. Those are dull details until an otherwise lovely evening ends with a surprise.
Would I return?
I'd return for the main hotel and its place on St. Jean Bay. For complete seclusion, the sensible choice would be a particular villa with its location known in advance. This hotel is at its best when the sea and the island's energy are both close.
