Parlor & veranda
Raffles Singapore offered a very different visit from dropping by for a Singapore Sling. My suite had a separate parlor and a shaded veranda above a blue fountain, somewhere I could sit while the busier public rooms filled with visitors. The particular courtyard view mattered to that routine.
Butler & dining
The butler showed me through the suite and explained what came with it. Chicken rice ordered to the veranda while unpacking, followed by a Sling, made the first evening feel wonderfully easy. Dinner in the Tiffin Room and afternoon tea in the Grand Lobby deserved their own reservations rather than being squeezed into the same outing.
History, pool & service
A history tour made the building more interesting than a quick pass through the lobby. I spent time at the pool and appreciated the quieter mornings before many day visitors arrived. The veranda let me return to that calm once the public rooms grew busy later in the day. That difference was part of the pleasure of having a room upstairs.
Would I return?
The shaded veranda and long meals make a stronger case for returning than another photograph of the famous facade. The suite and the people made it a place to live in for a few days.
