Garden & location
Hotel de Russie gave me a quiet garden just off the busy streets near Piazza del Popolo. I came back from walking Rome to terraces that softened the city's noise, then took breakfast outside beneath the trees. Homemade cakes changed from morning to morning, but the maritozzo was the one I wanted again the next day.
The bedroom
The bedroom position could change the experience in a historic building. When the first room did not suit, staff were willing to show other options rather than insist a category name told the whole story. Hot coffee arriving within minutes made the following mornings much easier.
Service & breakfast
The most persuasive service was small-scale: someone leaving the desk to show me the way, or restaurant staff remembering how breakfast should begin. Garden dining was lovely, although a casual lunch there could cost considerably more than an equally satisfying meal elsewhere in Rome. I ate in for the setting and left other meals open for the city.
Would I return?
The garden and walkable Rome address are worth another visit when the bedroom is as inviting as the terrace. The public terrace alone could not make up for the wrong bedroom, so a few nights and the right view were the way to enjoy both.
