The rock-cut pool
At Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the seawater pool sits in the rocks above the Mediterranean rather than on a generic resort deck. I lost a long afternoon there, moving between the water and a cabana before heading back through the gardens. This place needed more than a quick overnight look.
Bedroom & service
The famous grounds did not make every bedroom identical. A sea-view price should bring more than cars outside a window, and an early service cart beside the door would change the mood of a quiet morning. I cared about the particular building and its relation to the garden as much as the room's furnishings.
Pool service & dining
Service was at its best when it remembered the little things. My preferred mocktail appeared by the pool lounger I had used the day before, and a favorite table could be held again at meals. Staying overnight also mattered: someone arriving only for lunch might not have the same access to the bar or pool.
Would I return?
Several slow days by that rock-cut pool and in a shaded cabana would suit Eden-Roc far better than using it as a stop between Riviera towns. Once the room, pool time and a few tables were right, the coast itself filled the holiday.
