Overwater villa
Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi gave me more choice than a tiny island with one dining room. An overwater villa with its own pool and a way down to the sea made it easy to stay on the deck for hours. Its position affected the water view and the journey to restaurants, so the room map mattered.
Concierge & island
A personal concierge made the larger island less complicated, settling a spa visit and meals before I spent the morning finding a buggy. Back in the villa, housekeeping left small personalized details at turndown, including a bookmark and a charging accessory. The boat transfer and its cost still deserved a clear answer before arrival.
Breakfast & dining
Breakfast at Tasting Table made a routine, with Zuma available for a Japanese dinner and other places to try on later nights. Snorkeling the house reef was easy to do nearby, though an external outing gave a better chance of seeing less common marine life. I liked having both an effortless day at home and reasons to leave my pool.
Would I return?
A private villa balanced with enough dining choice would be the reason to return to this larger island. Paying for a large resort while never leaving the deck would have missed much of its appeal; a few meals booked ahead made the island easy to enjoy.
