The hillside suite
Hotel Wailea felt like a break from the much bigger resorts downhill. My one-bedroom suite had a real living area and somewhere to sit outside, and the gardens made the low-rise buildings feel private. The adults-only pool was quiet enough to read beside rather than another place to compete for a chair.
Beach shuttle & pool
The hill is real. A walk down to Wailea's sand is pleasant, but the climb back after a swim is another matter in the heat. I used the hotel car rather than make every short outing a parking job and checked when it would run before planning an evening away.
Drinks & dinner
A drink at The Birdcage was a nice end to the pool day. The Restaurant could be less convincing when a plate arrived slowly and lukewarm, especially with few other dinner options right on the hill. I asked about cabana charges before taking an empty one and would report a cold shower promptly rather than let it follow me through the stay.
Would I return?
The suite space and calm pool would draw me back when a little distance from the beach feels like a fair trade. With a suite facing the right way and a few dinners elsewhere in Wailea, the distance from the crowds felt like the hotel's best feature.
