Central & the harbor room
The original Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong made Central remarkably easy to use. From the right room, the harbor view was a daily pleasure, and covered walkways connected transport and ferries without much planning even in wet weather. I could head out into the city and still have a settled place to return to.
Breakfast & dining
Breakfast at the Clipper Lounge, followed by a walk under cover toward the ferry, became a comfortable routine. The Aubrey offered Japanese food for another meal. A pot of Chinese tea back in the room would have made the evening even better. Those memories are of the hotel before its major renovation, not a description of a finished new room.
The hotel renovation
The original Central property has been undergoing substantial work; it is separate from The Landmark Mandarin Oriental nearby. I would check whether overnight rooms and particular restaurants are accepting bookings before planning a visit, rather than rely on an old photograph of the harbor view.
Would I return?
I'd happily consider returning when the completed hotel is ready to be experienced on its own terms. Its position and the older stay still interest me, but the new room layout, food and price need judging as they actually are, not as I remember them.
